why am I doing what I’m doing?

Many people have asked me WHY am I doing WHAT I’m doing. I own a business in Human Flourishing, helping people who are already doing well and want to do EVEN better. Believe it or not, I was like you a few years ago, wondering where and what I was going to do with my life. I even had a few periods of depression for several months.

The defining moment in my life was when everything that could go wrong happened at the same time. I was going into depression again.

It was at this point in time, I spoke with my mum. A woman of few words, she would only speak when necessary. She sat quietly listening to me about everything going wrong in my life. After some time, she looked me in the eye and said, “Shan, if there’s one thing I know about you, it’s when you want to do something, nothing can stop you.” And then she paused. “You know something? From what you told me, you are very much like Gonggong [what I call my grandfather]. I believe in you. Just go and do it. You are your grandfather’s grand-daughter.”

My late grandfather was the man who loved and treated me the best in the entire world. He was also the man I respected and admired the most. Strong, resilient, tenacious, intelligent, kind, generous, loving. To be like him, is the best honour I can ever have.

From that moment on, this changed my life and steeled my resolve forever to dedicate the rest of my professional life to the betterment of people, who achieve and sustain their potential and strengths to the fullest. To be the best you can be, just like my Gonggong, just like me.

I immersed myself in becoming the best in what I do, being an expert on marketing to get clients, being an expert on coaching to help people do EVEN better. Most importantly, I had to be the best I could be as well.

Failure exists in the mind. Success also exists in the mind. Success and failure and mental constructs. Banish failure, embrace success. Erase failure from your dictionary.

Failure does not exist in my mind. So where am I heading to? The only place I am heading towards is success. I am my grandfather’s grand-daughter. Are you ready to join me for the ride of your lifetime?
